Two Urban Models
Two Urban Models offers two 1/1000 scale reproductions of sections from two cities. One is from Stockholm, and one is from Tokyo. They are also each enormous expressions of confidence in completely different world views. Urban planning as we know it was a discipline formalized in Europe.
Stockholm is a classic example. What is striking about the Tokyo model is that through the sheer quantity of urban substance being built and the speed of its construction, the new East Asian city confronts us with an entirely new urban reality that we may not recognize or even be able to discuss within the classical conceptual framework of this European city.
8x8: An alternative for Stockholm
At the same time the exhibition ”8x8: An alternative for Stockholm” opens. It’s made by students at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and offers their project for a new concept of urban planning with exemples of different building types.
