International Practice

A young generation of architects are emerging in Japan. Amoung these, SANAA is considered to be one of the leading forces. The office was founded in Tokyo 1995, and are currently attached to projects around the world.

Among the most recently completed works are 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, a building for Zollverein School of Management and Design in Essen, and De Kunstlinie, a culture and theater center in Almere. Later this year The New Museum of Contemporary Art will open in New York.

SANAA is one of the leading architecture offices when it comes to designing new art institutions. The practise also furniture and product design.

New Methods

SANAA represents a new generation of architects looking for new methods for site-specific architecture by questioning established concepts such as transparency and open plans. They frequently use large glazed openings that dissolve the boundaries between interior and exterior.

The exhibition presents work from the beginning of their career until now. It consists of study models, three-dimensional objects, photographs, and video films that are found in-between art and architecture.
