Restoration doctrines have succeeded one another ever since the start of the 19th century. In recent years, though, one finds a tendency to fit the approach to the object of restoration rather than following a specific doctrine. If there is an ideology of restoration today, what does it look like?

Ten important restorations
Taking this question as their starting point, students in the Restoration Art Department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts have analysed ten important restorations completed recently.
The ruined castle of Borgholm has been restored in modern form and with modern techniques, with cultural tourism in mind.
The growth of interest in reconstructions is instanced by Vadstena Castle and Gunnebo Manor near Gothenburg. The Sveaplan Girls’ High School in Stockholm and the Gyttorp housing estate in Närke point to the difficulties of handling monuments of 20th century modernism.
The other restoration projects presented in the exhibition are Katarina Church in Stockholm, Svartsjö Castle near Stockholm, Mälsåker Caste in Södermanland and Skara and Linköping Cathedrals.
