Mies van der Rohe-award 2003
Zaha Hadid received the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – the Mies van der Rohe Award – 2003 for the Car Park and Terminus Hoenheim North in Strasbourg. This project and 40 other exemplary works are featured in an exhibition produced by Mies van der Rohe Foundation of Barcelona.
This prize seeks to celebrate the rich and varied panorama of architectural production in Europe in two significant ways: to promote the wide circulation of professionals working throughout the European Union by the encouragement of transnational commissions and to support emerging architects as they start out on their careers.
For each biennial edition, the jury also selects from among these proposals a single work to be granted the Emerging Architect Special Mention. This year it’s Sharnhauser Park Town Hall in Ostfildern, Germany by Jürgen Mayer H.
Proposals of works to be considered for the prize are put forth by an ample group of independent experts from all over Europe who are specialised in contemporary architecture. The Eden Project in Cornwall by Nicholas Grimshaw, Andrew Whalley, Jolyon Brewis, David Kirkland och Michael Pawlyn.
The exhibition consists of a total of 41 works. The materials that are included in the exhibition are photographic panels, models and audiovisual presentations. Hedge House Art Gallery in Wijlre, The Netherlands by Wiel Arets.
