Arkitekturmuseet

Kengo Kuma

The Swedish Museum of Architecture presents an exhibition on the internationally acclaimed architect Kengo Kuma (born 1954). It is the first major presentation of his work ever held in Sweden.

Understated elegance

Like many Japanese architects, Kuma's work is best characterized as elegant and understated. He uses light and natural materials in order to achieve a "new kind of transparency".

Nature and time

Kuma's aim "is to recover the place" which is the "result of nature and time". He sees his architecture as "some kind of frame of nature" through which "we can experience nature more deeply and more intimately".

1994 - 2004

The exhibition covers his work from 1994 through 2004. It consists of models, photos, films and texts that illustrate Kuma's philosophy and ideas.
